Clinical trials began in 2007. Once those are completed, MAGNET PDD will lead its partners in producing a final product and submitting it to the FDA for approval. Once approved, the private sector partner, EST, will take over manufacture and distribution. The other members of the partnership will share the licensing royalties.

"We don't create new products in a vacuum," comments Nolan. "We have proved that this network model for creating new products is successful. If you just throw the ball to commercial companies, sometimes nothing happens at all-they lose focus. For a product like the APD, our team has to stay right in the middle of it."
