In 2004, entrepreneur Phil Davis was just itching to find a way to tap into the men's healthcare product market.
"At that time, the men's skin care market was just beginning to take off," recalls Davis, who is Managing Member of iCubed International. "Some giant companies like Gillette and Nivea introduced product lines and I began to think there wasn't any way for a small company like mine to compete."
Davis found himself musing about how nice it would be to reach for a hot towel treatment before his morning shave. Suddenly, the thought popped into his mind: "What if I could bring the microwave into the bathroom?" That was quickly followed by: "What might women do with a microwave in the bathroom?" and "What might people do with a microwave in all the other rooms of a home?"
"Let's take the microwave out of the kitchen. Let's put it anyplace except the kitchen!"
Juiced by the possibilities, Davis grabbed a tape measure and started measuring surfaces in his bathroom and bedroom. Then he got on the Internet to research microwave technology. No one was producing a microwave small enough (approximately 1 cu. sq. ft) for use outside a kitchen. He was sure he'd discovered a new niche market.
Davis eventually decided to call his brainchild—a 1-cu.-sq.-ft. appliance that could be carried anywhere—the iWave Cube and his company iCubed International.
