Professionally produced CAD drawings helped Davis sell his miniature microwave idea to a manufacturing partner and bring it to market within one year.
In January 2007, after nine months of work with MAGNET PDD, Davis traveled to Guangdon province, China, to visit Midea, one of the world's largest household appliance OEMs. He brought along the MAGNET feasibility study and Marshall's CAD drawings. Midea liked Davis’s proposal so much, it put his product on the fast track for production.
"It gave me so much credibility being backed by an organization with the MAGNET's reputation," Davis says. "Our Chinese partner immediately bought into our concept and by December 2007 we had a finished product. That's lightning speed in the product development world."
In January 2008, the iWave Cube went on sale in the U.S. at Sharper Image. In March, the product attracted kudos at the International Home & Housewares Show. Now that the iWave Cube is selling well domestically, Davis is targeting the international market with four new products based on the iWave Cube patent.
"I think MAGNET is the most underutilized resource we have in Northeast Ohio," declares Davis. "MAGNET has a tremendous depth of expertise and energy. It was their engineers' commitment to help a local entrepreneur that really drove this project from idea to reality. You can't put a price tag on that."
