Facilities

The completely renovated, 85,000-square-foot Manufacturing Innovation Center (MIC), provides a modern, creative environment for the MAGNET Product Design & Development team.

The MIC is located in the heart of the urban campus at Cleveland State University—just steps from CSU's Fenn College of Engineering and a quick commute from Cleveland's University Circle, home to the Case School of Engineering and the Cleveland Institute of Art.

MAGNET maintains a close relationship with all three centers of design and engineering educational excellence by mentoring interns in their junior and senior years. After graduation, literally 100% of MAGNET interns have gone on to exciting jobs in manufacturing all over the country.

On the ground floor, MAGNET maintains a 5,000-square foot machine shop equipped with a variety of computer numerical control (CNC) machinery including vertical and horizontal mills, lathes, drills, enlays and wire EDM capability.

The design studio, conference room and administrative offices are on the second floor. Eight design stations are laid out on an open plan to foster communication and creativity. The studio has its own fused deposition modeling (FDM) station, allowing rapid prototyping. CAD capabilities include wireframe geometry creation, 3D parametric feature-based modeling, solid modeling, freeform surface modeling, automated assembly design and creation of engineering drawings from solid models.

Specialized computer-aided engineering packages available to the PDD team:

  • Pro-Engineer WildFire 3.0
  • Pro-Intralink
  • Solid Works 2007
  • AutoCAD
  • Illustrator
  • Photoshop
